RENEWING INGLEWOOD
The City will begin a 3 year program to completely rebuild the streets and sidewalks of Inglewood beginning in 2019. One part of this program is the option to include decorative streetlights instead of the standard galvanized aluminum poles. The Community League polled residents for their wishes. The overwhelming majority wanted to have new light poles that matched the type chosen by the Westmount neighbourhood. The city will conduct a vote of property owners in September to determine if the entire neighbourhood is in favour of this upgrade. For the upgrade to be approved, owners of over 881 properties in Inglewood–more than 50% of all property owners—must agree to the upgrade.
If you are a property owner in Inglewood, watch for your letter from the city asking for your vote. The Community League is preparing to go door-to-door throughout the neighbourhood to answer any questions, encourage people to vote yes, and collect people’s ballots to save you the cost of postage. If you have any questions about the “Rebuilding Inglewood” program, visit Making Great Neighbourhoods or email us at info@inglewoodcl.com
Lets get something done with the large amount of traffic on 122 st, between 111 ave-118 ave. The full signal lights recently intalled on 122st -118 ave is causing misery on this street. Its hard to sleep with the traffic. Its miserable to listen to it. Mornings and late afternoons are terrible. Even late nights can get awful. The city has encouraged traffic on this street with the lights. It may not have been the plan but it’s what is now happening. The city needs to stop the knee jerk reactions, to calm traffic in one area to just cause more in another area.
I am happy about the renewal but upset over 122st now being using for shortcutting and speeding traffic. How was this allowed. 122 st is a narrow road. 111 ave to 118 ave with no stops no yields no nothing except constant shortcutting to the yellowhead and beyond. The speeds are horrific and even worse through the night. How come we are forced to put up with this. Cant even sleep now. Cant keep window open. How come people on this street were not consulted. The city and whomever else has royally screwed us. And we are all getting upset . I would like to have some decent sleep. Very upset that this was done to us. It needs to change. This street is impossible to live on. Who is going to solve this. W. Heather
Joe and Heather,
As the Communications Director for the Inglewood Community League, I want to thank you for engaging and posting your thoughts and concerns. The ICL works to represent the needs and concerns of residents to make Inglewood a safe, vibrant, and attractive community. In this role, the ICL works to help residents engage with city staff and officials to help “rebuild Inglewood” into the type of neighbourhood we all want to live in.
The city has conducted two engagement sessions this past spring to understand the concerns of residents. Short-cutting down 122 St. as well as speed and traffic issues throughout the rest of the community were raised. Perhaps you attended these sessions and offered your thoughts in person or through the survey tools.
More recently, the city conducted a focused session on August 16 on options to calm traffic and curb short-cutting. Residents had another opportunity to residents to engage city staff to express concerns and identify areas for traffic management on a neighbourhood map.
All these events were well publicized by both the city and your ICL (the ICL promoted these events as much as the city’s notice period would sometimes allow).
If for some reason, you haven’t taken the opportunity to participate until now, there will be some more meetings coming up this fall. I would encourage you to attend them and also share any concerns you have with your city councillor. Be sure to “like” our facebook page, visit this website, and subscribe to our monthly email newsletter to staff informed of when and where these events will happen.
